The image depicts a member of the Emmanuel Church Tuberculosis Class, which took place between 1905 and 1923; an experimental outdoor method conducted by Dr. Joseph Hersey Pratt (1872-1956) for consumption patients (many Irish) who could not afford sanitorium care. The patients were required to journal on their progress and attend group meetings for further examination. The program had a very high cure rate.
