Information from the National Archives 2011 reveals that Rd. No. #39266 is Dec. 8, 1885, the date that Wallis Gimson & Co. registered this pattern. The description of the pattern is as follows: "A printed design in Aesthetic of a bird perched on the lower rung of a trellis from the left side of which is hung a basket of fuscias, the flower heads out of proportion." "Fuschia by John Tams, pattern #3336 is almost identical to this one. Both are marked with the same Rd No., so perhaps Tams somehow got hold of the copper plates and also used the pattern. The checkered hanging pot is full of flowering Fuschia, and a vine swing holds the bird. The bird sits quietly on the swing on this plate as opposed to the bird in the Tams version which sits with wings outstretched. Here also the Fuschia plant/blossom extends further into the plate, and a small insect is seen on the far right. The variations could indicate the pattern adjustments to different sizes in the dinner service or it may be that Tams produced their own version of the pattern while still using the same Rd. No. as Wallis Gimson & Co.
