Depicts Max J. Engel (1872-1951), an amputee from Buffalo, New York. Engel lost his legs in a train accident. His dog, Carlo, pulled his custom cart. In 1897, the pair traveled across the state. Engel sold photographs of himself during the journey to offset expenses.
