Gertrude was the eldest. / I remember a fire was always burning during the cold months and a bay window (to the right) was always cheery with sunshine. The dining room behind this, overlooked cherry trees, and the long drawing room was across the hallway. L.T.G."

Not For Sale
According to the caption by Whiting's granddaughter, Louise Taylor Gerdine, this home was located on Mt. Vernon Street, Lowell, Massachusetts. Personally, I think this photo depicts 57 Clare Street, which is where Whiting lived in the 1890s up to his death. I suspect the granddaughter misremembered when she wrote the caption.
Note the Portland vase on the table in the foreground and the silhouette of Napoleon on the mantel.
