Letter written on Windsor Castle mourning stationery by John Hulbert Glover, librarian of Windsor Castle, to esteemed Scottish gardener and author, Charles McIntosh:
Sir,
I did not fail to take the earliest convenient opportunity of bringing the second volume of "The Book of the Garden" - which had been forwarded to me by Mr. James Clark - under the notice of Her Majesty the Queen & HRH the Prince; & I am most gratified by having it in my power to assure you that it was most graciously received; & that I was honored with the Queen's commands to convey to you the expression of Her Majesty's thanks for your attention in forwarding the work for The Royal Library. HRH was also pleased to express himself in the most favourable terms of the scientific nature & general utility of the Work; & which opinion it will, much, be gratifying to you to know.
From, Sir,
Your most obed. Servt.,
J.H. Glover, Libr.
