Belonged to Lucy White (1829-1911), who married Edmund Marshall (1830-1909) in London, England. They had at least five children: Richard, Edmund, Elizabeth, Frederick, and Henry. In 1888, the family moved to New York. Lucy White Marshall was a descendant of the Earl of Pembroke. The author of the note received the lap desk from Marie C. Dolge Marshall, Frederick's second wife.
