A campaign medal awarded to all British and colonial military personnel who served in the second Boer War in South Africa. They had to have been in theater on or before Jan. 1st 1902 and completed 18 months of service prior to the 1st of June 1902.
This medal is named to Private W. Cawthorne his service number was 2692 and he served with the Northumberland Fusiliers.
Cawthorne was born in 1872 in India and he was a printer by trade. He joined the Northumberland Fusiliers in 1890 and served with them during the first and second Boer War.
