Nosegay Club Cheese pot: In 1885, the Little Falls, New York, firm of Burrell & Whitman registered the trademark for its cheese with the U.S. Patent Office. The flowers in the patented design could be omitted, the application stated, because the essential feature of the trademark was the word "Nosegay."
