Ambrotype taken at Lake Providence, Louisiana. Depicts Thomas Gillett Day (1836-64). He enlisted Sept. 28,1861 at age 25 in Co. G, 13th Iowa Infantry. He was mustered into U.S. service on Nov. 2,1861 at Davenport, Iowa. On Jan. 1,1864 he re-enlisted for a second term of service. He was killed in action Aug. 25,1864 while the regiment was maneuvering near Utoy Creek, Georgia, near Atlanta. He is buried in the National Cemetery at Marietta, Georgia, Section J, Site 9712.
