I started with a watercolor of an owl in flight with a sunrise behind - but it was missing something. I always like to add a surprise into my drawings and paintings, and collaged torn origami paper over the trees to give the texture of bark and add a burst of pattern and color. I also collaged cutout tulips from a vintage floral illustration book to the foreground.
