This piece was created near the beginning of my delving into surreal portraiture, featuring stoic head-and-shoulder figures with subtle or blank facial expressions. Insight into the figure's emotions and story comes from the patterns and color in the surrounding background, and on their hair and clothing. Inspiration was taken from vintage wallpaper and fabric designs, and the figure itself came from combining features of faces from antique photographs.
