This painting was inspired by my memory of the large seashell sculpture [created by artist Maggi Hambling] on Aldeburgh beach. I had the image of a personified object (the sculpture) that watched every movement, every coming and going, on Aldeburgh beach and this is why I painted the 'eye'. The title suggests that the shell is on the same 'wavelength' as its environment. I have also been told, for one person at least, it is representative of an old Bakelite radio, and as such the title remains appropriate. Art is all in the eyes of the beholder therefore it will be whatever you want it to be. For me, it will always be the large seashell on Aldeburgh beach. I have used oil paint and sand in this painting. Painting is signed bottom left
