Four Sunflowers in a blue vase, painted in an impressionist style. I have used a limited palette, some sand as an additive and a simple setting for this still life painting in order to keep the focus on the flowers and the one which has fallen out of the vase. There are symbolic meanings within this painting. The sunflowers represent the four daughters (of the artist) and the sunflower which has fallen out of the vase represents the youngest daughter who died unexpectedly as a young woman. Sunflowers were the favourite flower of the youngest daughter. They were also the flowers that all the daughters loved to grow from seed as children. It is a happy painting and one that represents a closeness and connection in all that it represents.
