This artwork forms part of the 'What Does An Artist Do All Day' project (2022). It is a diptych showing the connection between Otzi, the remains of the Iceman discovered in Italy in 1991 and Marie the assistant of Bryan Sykes, Professor of human genetics.
Otzi lived somewhere between 3350BC and 3105BC. It is believed that he was murdered from the evidence of an arrowhead embedded in his left shoulder. Professor Bryan Skyes (author of the book Seven Daughters of Eve) recruited Marie as an assistant when working on his genetic research and analysis of ancient DNA. He published the first report on retrieving DNA from ancient bone. Professor Sykes, in his research, used DNA from Marie, resulting in the discovery of a genetic link between Marie and Otzi. I felt that as this link was established between them, and that I had used two pages from the aforementioned book, that Otzi and Marie should, in their new 'form', be together
