This seascape painting was inspired by my regular trips to the west coat of Scotland. I used a variety of different mediums to create the beautiful golden light and turquoise colours you get on the west coast. There is also an element of storm coming or passing a haze over the summer sun. These summer storms roll in and out over the west coast of Scotland and this is what I love about Scottish seascapes, the changeability, the light and mood is always changing and this is what I am reproducing in this painting. It is a painting of a moment rather that a specific place, it is a moment of time that has stuck in my head. The mediums I used recreate this moment was Oil, sand, gold crackle paste, gold and copper foil on canvas board. These mediums are used to create a painting that shifts slightly depending on the angle you view you it, the foil which was applied on top of the crackle paste and sand then scraped off so it catches the light. I wanted this painting to follow you and bring you in no matter what angle you view it from and the changing light due to the mediums used creates a feeling of that sun bouncing off the hills and clouds, forcing its way back out through the dark rolling clouds, just being in that moment when the light dramatically changes due to a cloud rolling in or the sun pushing its way through.
