‘Wee hooses oot in the wilds’ have always fascinated me. There is something sad and lonely about a small derelict building sitting in the middle of nowhere. Some of these buildings were old shepherding dwellings no longer needed and some were the homes left behind when the Highland Clearances took place. Not all are left idle though. The Mountain Bothy Association maintains around 100 as shelters for anyone to use when out in these remote areas – rest for an afternoon or spend a night or two. This scene was second in the Bothies Series, comprising of four scenes painted in small, medium or large format, this being the largest size. Painting is signed bottom right.
