Plate, 8.75 inches diameter. Brown transfer with polychrome clobbering. Printed maker's mark for Alfred Meakin Ltd. This pattern features a morning glory vine with branches and wild grasses arranged in a graceful arc across the center scene. Two butterflies hover over the arrangement, while three birds fly into the view from the left.
Alfred Meakin Ltd. was set up in 1875 and operated from the Royal Albert, Victoria, and Highgate Potteries in Tunstall. The Royal Albert Works were established in 1881 and were formerly occupied by Turner & Tompkinson. Meakin died in January 1902.
