Child’s tea set plate/bowl, 4.875 inches diameter. Brown transfer with polychrome clobbering. Printed maker's mark for Charles Allerton & Sons. Although "Stag" is an Aesthetic pattern with several cartouches containing scenes and flowers, it is a pattern used on tea sets for children. Allerton & Sons did not name patterns in their marks until the mid-1880s, so this is one of the first name-marked patterns. This pattern features a stag standing in a field with trees, a lake, and hills in the background.

The Park Works was established in 1831. Charles Allerton died around June 1863, but his four sons: William Allerton, John Bill Allerton, Charles Bradbury Allerton, and Frederick James Allerton, continued the company under the original name, although before August 1887, only William & Charles Bradbury Allerton remained. Charles Bradbury retired in August 1887. Taken over in 1912 by Cauldon Potteries Ltd., from which date they operated under the name of Allerton's Ltd.
