Plate, 9.75 inches diameter (24.8cm). Black transfer. Printed maker's mark for Goode & Kenworthy. The Rd. No. dates the registration of this pattern to 1884. "Masher" is a whimsical, pleasant pattern with three cartouches surrounded by flowers and blossoms. Three birds in flight hover around the cartouches. There is a fan with geometric patterns, a rectangular cartouche with two sailing boats with clouds in the background, and an oval cartouche with a landscape featuring tall trees and water.

In 1857 Messrs. Blackhurst & Dunning commenced the Tunstall Works for the manufacture of ordinary earthenware for the home and South American markets. In 1867 Mr. Dunning died, and the business was carried on by Richard Blackhurst alone until his death in 1877. After that it was carried on by Messrs. Goode & Kenworthy.
