Cup, 4.25 inches tall. Red transfer. Printed maker's mark for S. Fielding & Co. The diamond registry dates the registration of this pattern to 26 January 1882. This interesting pattern features highly stylized flowers, foliage, and geometric shapes. The border consists of a continuous vine of stylized flowers set against a solid background with dots.

Simon Fielding was a manufacturer of earthenware and majolica at the Railway Pottery, Stoke. He had been a partner in the previous company F. Hackney & Co. In 1879 the partnership was dissolved and Simon Fielding (d. 1906) continued on his own account. Within a few years, however, the bailiffs came in and it was Simon's son Abraham, who stepped in to save the company. In June 1892, Simon Fielding retired from the business and Abraham continued on his own account. In 1912 the Railway Works was renamed The Devon Pottery and Fielding developed the famous 'Crown Devon' name.
