The registry diamonds indicates a pattern registration date of 15 November 1869, which is the date Liddle, Elliot & Son registered a pattern. This pattern features a pairing of fern and grass on each long side of the body and at each end of the lid. The border consists of alternating crowns and triangles covering circles. The lid and body rim are decorated with a simple yellow line.
Liddle Elliot & Son was an earthenware and blue-printed ware manufacturer at the Dale Hall Works in Longport and Burslem, Staffordshire, England. Note that this company was not Liddle & Elliot & Son. It is "Liddle Elliot" & Son, with Liddle being the forename of Mr. Elliot. Liddle Elliot was previously in business with the Mayer brothers and from April 1860 on his own account. He died in March 1869 and the business was continued by Liddle Elliot’s son as Bates, Elliot & Co.
