Vase, 5.75 inches tall. Brown transfer. Printed maker's mark for G. W. Turner & Sons. This complicated pattern is comprised of a variety of plants and cartouches. The main scene features a palm in an elaborate ceramic vase with plant and animal motifs. There are two cartouches, one round and another rectangular. The round cartouche features an image of a crane with bent legs and neck beneath a tree. The rectangular cartouche features a scene with two Chinese figures fishing underneath a decorated bridge with a village to the left. Additional decoration includes flowers, bamboo, and a sinuous geometric band. Rotating the vase counterclockwise, the image continues with a branch of blooming flowers seeming to grow off a three-dimensional block on top of a vertical, slanting cartouche. The back of the vase features a large fragmented stalk of bamboo and a small sprig of flowers and buds.
