Pitcher, 7 inches tall. Printed maker's mark for Powell & Bishop. The registry diamond dates the registration of this pattern to 24 March 1877. This design shows two people operating a shadoof, an irrigation device with a bag or basket on one end and a counterweight on the other, used to lift water from a river or lake to the fields. It was used in ancient Mesopotamia and is still used in many parts of Asia and Africa today. It is perhaps best known in Egypt.

Founded in 1851 as Livesley, Powell & Co. In 1860 Mr. Livesley left the business, which was renamed Powell & Bishop in 1867. Mr. Frederic Bishop and Mr. James Watson Bishop were the partners.
