Interior Baffled North Light - Sunny Afternoon Autumn
We went apple picking at a local family owned orchard. Delighted to see apples in their native habitat I naturally wanted to bring home a sample to explore it in the alternate context of my studio. I had a technical idea of developing the apples with great care for value (light and dark) while treating the environment as a colorist.
It happened fast. The leaves began to wither and change within hours, but the apples... Those apples were strong! They clung firmly to the branch with no real visible shifts despite the vast changes of circumstance. As I developed my more optical elements the emotional narrative began to surface. Family business. Branches. Rooted and Uprooting. The apples holding together through storms of nature and life. Family as an anchor and strength. What began as an interesting experiment ultimately became one of my most emotional pieces. To this day I can't describe this painting in person without tearing up.
