Part of the Sandy Spring Museum/MD Colorists project. We used historic artifacts from their collection to create still lifes. Then painted them on site in the museum as a part of the exhibit. It was a unique blend of the performance aspect of plein air painting done in a museum setting. The rise of historic ways of painting - realism, perception, all prima and plein air are all reborn in this generation of artists. We were taking the historic artifacts and bringing them out into engagement with the present community. Making something new out of something old and creating connections with the current community of Sandy Spring while honoring the past.
