On a visit to our family farm I was exploring round the big red hip roof barn. 'My favorite model' is what Uncle Joe calls it because I paint it obsessively every time I'm there. This time I noticed how the south facing back wall was bowed way out, bleached by the sun and looking just about ready to collapse. But the bones of the barn are strong and have stood through generations. I love the straight white corner supports in opposition to the organic flow of that dilapidated wall. That barn feels like the beating heart of the farm. I'm not done painting her.
