This painting was mostly born of my obsession with sunlight coming through the window brightening my day and just deeply loving that sprouting onion. Like most painters there is meaning in the things I choose to paint. Plants for me are often a symbol of resilience and determination. The onion is determined to sprout. I have so much respect for it’s grit and beauty. The strawberries and jam point to preservation and tradition. The begonia in back is a gift from a friend who was dividing one that had become root-bound. It’s also about breakfast, because yum.
