This 48" x 48" abstract mixed media and oil painting on board by Perla Krauze features male and female figures in intriguing poses and glances blocked in and separated by metallic silver, gold and black geometric forms and shapes.
Perla Krauze often uses found natural objects in her paintings preserving and casting them in resin or aluminum. In this painting she uses corrugated cardboard which adhered to the board.
Perla Krauze was born in Mexico in 1953. She completed anthropology studies at Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia, School of Anthropology, Mexico City, 1973-74; earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design in 1977, Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas, Universidad Nacional de Mexico; received a diploma in textiles from Goldsmith College, London, England in 1980; and earned a Master of Arts degree in fine arts, painting, and sculpture from Chelsea College of Art, London in 1993. Her honors include a 2006 residency, Santa Fe Art Institute, New Mexico; a 2004-07 FONCA fellowship, Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte; and a 2002 residency, FONCA, Banff Centre for the Arts, Canada. Krauze’s work is in many collections, including those of Museo de la Estampa, México D.F.; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca, México; and Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, Colección Manuel Felguerez, Zacatecas, México.
