This 38 x 32 inch painting, is an oil on canvas titled 'Female Nude,' by artist Charles G. Bockmann. The painting depicts a 3/4th portrait of a nude woman who is seated on what appears to be a couch or lounge chair, although it is barely visible and the figure mainly occupies the composition. The woman is positioned just off center, mainly taking up the right half of the canvas. As a 3/4th's portrait, the only part of the woman's body not visible are her lower legs, her knees stopping at the bottom edge of the composition, while her head reaches the top edge of the canvas. Her right arm (left side of canvas), rests on the arm of the couch/chair, with her hand just slightly hanging off the edge, while her left arm hangs naturally by her side. Her hand appears to be resting on the couch that she sits upon, although it is cut off by the bottom right corner of the work. Although she appears to be sitting up straight, her torso bends towards the right just a bit, just as her head tilts to the right, making her appear to be looking towards the bottom right corner of the composition. Her facial demeanor is that of a demure, young woman. Her hair falls over her right shoulder, just below her neck while her left shoulder hides her hair as it falls behind her. Her hair appears to be a shade of blonde, just a bit darker than her skin tone. There is a shadow that is cast on her body, helping to demonstrate the artist's skills in depicting light and contrast as well as accentuate the woman's body and shape. The shadow helps to define the right cheek bone on her face, her breasts, the right side of her torso and her forearm. Bockmann uses a limited color palette for this work; the woman's figure is composed of various shades of tan, while the couch/chair she sits upon is painted blue. The background is painted a dark reddish brown, but with different tones. A lighter more noticeable red fills the background on the right side of the canvas and gets darker towards the left, almost so dark that the red is only barely visible as compared to the right side of the background.
The painting is framed with an antique, ornate golden frame.
