- Larry Hefner
Two square canvases with yellow, green, blue, brown and black palette, geometric abstraction, circles, stripes and dot patterns.
This 17.625 x 35.25 inch diptych is an abstract mixed media acrylic painting by artist, Larry Hefner. It depicts various shapes, lines, patterns, and colors. The colors Hefner mainly utilizes in this composition are different shades of blue, green, and grey, with some spots of yellow, beige and a burnt orange shade. The focal point appears to be the three large blue circular shapes, one in the left diptych and two in the right. The largest round shape on the right has a large 'X' going through it, with many strokes of black and white to emphasize the 'X.' Surrounding these three circular shapes are many organic shapes of varying sizes but with edges and corners, seeing as though they are not round. These shapes are green, yellow, blue, burnt orange, and beige and have varying lines and patterns within them and along their edges. These patterns consist of dotted lines, spots, and stripes, mainly black and white. Throughout the work are thin, seemingly opaque black, white, orange and yellow lines that appear to be randomly skewed across the various shapes making up the composition. Overall, this work exhibits an abstract patchwork of shapes and patterns, conducted in a messy and non-uniform manner to create a sense of movement and energy.
