'Brentor,' by Andrew Douglas, Watercolor Painting
This late 19th century framed 14" x 27" watercolor painting by artist Andrew Douglas depicts an ominous landscape in a dark and neutral palette of browns, gray, and yellow. In the foreground of the image is the opening of a pathway that leads through the hillside. In the distance is a large structure with a watchtower, in the background the evening dusk is enveloped by the moving clouds.
Andrew Douglas (1870-1935) was a Scottish painter of landscapes and cattle. He studied art in Edinburgh and received several awards and exhibited in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and the provinces and widely abroad. He was awarded membership to the Royal Scottish Academy in 1933.
